Captain Marvel full cast announced — with one huge surprise
Presented by: Don Kaye
Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the cast and crew of Captain Marvel as the film kicks off production — and it contains one delightful surprise member.
Joining the already announced Brie Larson (seen getting some training in the photo above from Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander, at Nellis Air Force Base), Samuel L. Jackson, Gemma Chan, and Jude Law are Ben Mendelsohn — whose presence in the film is now official after months of rumors — along with Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace... and Clark Gregg!
Yes, it appears that Agent Phil Coulson will make his first big-screen appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since he was killed off by Loki in 2012's The Avengers, only to be resurrected and star in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC on TV for these past five years.
Coulson's involvement in the story makes sense, since it's set in the 1990s and Phil was undoubtedly already working for Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. at the time — but it will still be a thrill to see him back in action as part of the MCU.
The other notable item is the return of Guardians of the Galaxy cast members Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou, who will presumably reprise their roles as Kree villains Ronan the Accuser and his wingman Korath respectively — their inclusion and the newly released synopsis make it more than likely that Captain Marvel is going to take place right in the middle of Marvel's legendary Kree-Skrull War:
The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel has begun shooting under the direction of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) in Los Angeles — where most of production will take place — and will also film in Fresno, California, as well as Baton Rouge and New Orleans in Louisiana. The film comes out a little under a year from now, on March 7, 2019.
Are you excited to see the return of Phil Coulson, Ronan, and Korath to the MCU, not to mention the Kree-Skrull War?
