Chris Hemsworth says Avengers 4 is more shocking than Infinity War

Presented by: Blair Marnell

Avengers: Infinity War shocked movie fans this summer by taking the premise of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline and following through on its ramifications for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was one of the last heroes standing, and it’s arguably Thor’s fault that the threat wasn’t decisively dealt with. Hemsworth is very eager for fans to see the cliffhanger addressed next year in Avengers 4. And according him, that sequel will have even bigger surprises.

“If you were shocked by [Infinity War], I think the second one is even more shocking, for other reasons entirely,” shared Hemsworth while speaking with Esquire. “That’s what kind of blew me away the first time I read both scripts, is how they managed to orchestrate so many different characters but give them each their own separate shot and moments, and have it be elevated and feel fresh and unique—not just like a messy, thrown-together assembly of these guys.”

“The second one I’m probably even more excited about,” continued Hemsworth. “Just for people to see. I just think it’s another step again. Each step we seem to take with these films, I’ve loved the fact that there’s been growth and evolution and it continues to surprise people as opposed to sort of flatlining, which was obviously always a fear—that they’d run out of ideas or run dry of creative excitement. For me, this whole experience has been incredible. In particular the last one.”

Of course, fans will only be surprised if someone doesn’t spoil it for them ahead of time. The Hulk's alter ego, Mark Ruffalo, has a bit of a reputation for spilling secrets, including an interview from 2017 in which he accidentally revealed the ending of Infinity War a year before its release. Despite Ruffalo’s inability to prevent spoilers, Hemsworth has nothing but good things to say about him.

“The amount of times [Ruffalo] has potentially derailed these films...but he’s also the person I probably love the most,” related Hemsworth. “He’s...just one of the kindest people you’ll meet. And so, completely forgivable every time he gives away some plot point. He could get away with murder. Anyone else, it might be highly scrutinized and punished, but he’s beyond forgivable.”

Avengers 4 will be released on May 3.
