Geoff Johns to write and produce Green Lantern Corps film

Presented by: James Comtois

Despite Warner Bros. originally shooting its first attempt at a Green Lantern film franchise in the head with a poorly-received 2011 film, and then later Deadpool going back in time to shoot star Ryan Reynolds in the head before he could say yes to the project, the dream of a new Green Lantern film lives on!

Geoff Johns, former president and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment, will write and produce the Green Lantern Corps film for Warner Bros. and DC Films. The film will be based on Johns’ New York Times bestselling series that ran for nine years and spawned additional spin-off titles and comic book events.

Green Lantern Corps will be the first film project to be produced under Johns’ new production company, Mad Ghost Productions, and part of a new exclusive writer/producer deal Johns has signed on with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment to create content across multiple divisions of the studio, including films, television and comic books, based on current DC properties as well as new and reimagined IP.

This is part of a deal in which Johns will leave his position as president and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment to focus on creative matters full-time. DC Entertainment publisher Jim Lee will step in and take over Johns' chief creative officer responsibilities.

In addition to writing comics, Johns has also been pretty prolific writing and producing for the big and small screen. He co-wrote Aquaman, which hits theatres December 21, and is writing the Wonder Woman sequel opening November 2019. Shazam!, slated for an April 2019 release, is based on his original graphic novel.

For television, Johns co-developed, wrote and is executive producing the first original series for the upcoming DC Universe digital service, Titans, with Akiva Goldsman and Greg Berlanti. He also co-developed The CW’s The Flash, and helped launch such shows as Arrow, Gotham, iZombie, Supergirl and Black Lightning.
