Jake Gyllenhaal shot down Batman rumours during an interview about a watch

Director Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) announced recently that everything was going "really, really well" with his Batman movie. He also made it clear that the film, still titled The Batman, will not deal with the Jason Todd comic storyline. One thing he did not address in any way was who exactly is going to, you know, play Batman. But while we still don't know who is going to don the cape and cowl, we do know that it will most definitely not be Jake Gyllenhaal.
Contrary to fan rumors circulating about Gyllenhaal getting ready to take on the iconic character, the actor himself has shut down any hope of this happening, and he has done it in a very unlikely place. The topic was brought up during an interview about a new watch, and can be seen on CNA Lifestyle's Facebook video below.
In the midst of talking about the watch, the interviewer flat out asked, "Is Jake Gyllenhaal going to be the next Batman?" Gyllenhaal responded with, "Wow, that's a very difficult question. The answer to that question is no."
It seems that the question wasn't difficult after all. We can cross Gyllenhaal off of the Bat-list, right under Ben Affleck. Though Affleck was set to direct and star in The Batman at one point, he vacated both positions. When Reeves came aboard, he tossed out every in-progress script and said that he intended to feature a younger Batman. So now Affleck's entire bat-future with the DCEU is in doubt, and after the less-than-stellar performance of Justice League, Affleck may be done with the role for good.
With Affleck and Gyllenhaal out of the running, who could get the rumor mill turning next? Will they debunk the rumors during a car commercial? Who would you like to see take on the mantle of The Batman? Let us know in the comments.
