James McAvoy jokes that he's open to playing a young Picard in upcoming Trek series

Having played a younger version of a role originated by Patrick Stewart in one franchise, it appears James McAvoy is thinking: why not do so in another? Well, okay, not really.
After Stewart confirmed that he was reprising his role of Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS All Access Star Trek series, McAvoy has jokingly offered to play a young Picard, should the show need one. In a photo Stewart posted on Instagram showing him meeting with the writers of the new series, McAvoy helpfully commented: "Need a flashback guy?????" Then later: "Just sayin @sirpatstew ...I’ve got previous experience and will work for autographs."
This is true, through the role of Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, McAvoy does have previous experience playing a younger version of Stewart, even though they don't actually look all that much alike. (You all have noticed that, right?)
But is this something we could expect to see? Don't count on it. Stewart and McAvoy are good friends, so this is very likely the Split and Glass star having a bit of fun. In fact, it's more than just likely, since someone familiar with the situation confirmed this to SYFY WIRE, while a rep from CBS only confirmed the casting of Patrick Stewart and declined to comment beyond that. Ah, well.
But, hey. If CBS does indeed need to do a flashback scene or two, they've got their man — and one who will apparently work for autographs!
