The Rock offers Black Adam update, says movie could contain some big DC cameos

Presented by: Josh Weiss

We've been hearing about a Black Adam movie starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for a long time now. So far, nothing has moved forward on the project, but Adam's nemesis, Shazam! (also known as Captain Marvel; yes, it is kind of confusing with Marvel also releasing its own Captain Marvel film in 2019) will make his solo debut next year. Nevertheless, Johnson is still entirely invested in the project, determined to see it make its way onto the big screen. Since he's the hottest thing in Hollywood right now, it probably won't be hard to get his way.

While speaking to the German publication Filmstarts, the Skyscraper actor gave an update on Adam, whose momentum is being slowed by Johnson's busy film schedule. In particular, the sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the Fast and Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw, the heist thriller Red Notice with Gal Gadot will shoot first, he said. The latter will be helmed by Skyscraper director Rawson Marshall Thurber. Only once these two projects have wrapped sometime next year, will Johnson be able to fully devote himself to Black Adam

Nevertheless, he couldn't help dropping a few hints about the comic book film, insinuating that we'd probably see a DC cameo or two in the movie once it's finally released in theaters in 2020 or 2021, which, given the actor's jam-packed schedule, seem like the most likely release years.

And despite the fact that Black Adam won't appear in Shazam!, we might get a short tease of the character when the movie premieres on April 5, 2019. Since he began as Teth-Adam in ancient Egypt, we hope there's a post-credits scene akin to the one at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, where a young En Sabah Nur (aka Apocalypse) builds a pyramid with his mind. It would be a nice way of establishing the supervillain's ancient origins while ramping up the excitement for Johnson's introduction into the DCEU.
