Twitter reacts to Henry Cavill's surprise Superman exit with meltdowns, eulogies, lots of jokes
Presented by: Josh Weiss
First Ben Affleck's tenure as Bruce Wayne/Batman is called into question, and now Henry Cavill hangs up his red cape as Superman. Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe is ripping at the seams, and Twitter has taken notice.
Minutes after news broke that Cavill (Mission: Impossible - Fallout) would no longer be playing the cinematic Man of Steel, folks on social media voiced their support for the actor's interpretation of the superhero as well as their opinion that the DCEU is kaput. Oh, and also made some pretty good jokes along the way, too.
It's easy to see why Superman fans might be shell-shocked, as Cavill was the man who helped kick off DC's cinematic universe back in 2013. He was the impetus for the entire effort, and now he's gone. Even with Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Supergirl movies on the way, what does it mean for the roadmap if there's no Superman flying around in this world, waiting for the next Justice League?
Check out Twitter's reaction to the breaking news:
Henry Cavill isn't Superman anymore.

Can't wait for the Superman reboot in a few years that'll bring back the red trunks, John Williams' theme, and Superman smiling in every scene while saying things like "Golly Lois, that's just swell!" pic.twitter.com/1wqbktClwZ

DCEU is a clusterfuck of a mess. There, I said it. Yes there's still some good parts of it, I'm looking forward to Shazam etc but first Ben Affleck likely isn't involved with Matt Reeves The Batman, Henry Cavill hanging up the red cape. I'm more excited for the elseworlds stuff.

The DCEU will never work until they can solve an issue that doesn't get talked about a lot:
Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, Superman, and Batman are four different characters.
No Justice League movie will work on a fundamental level until they spend time nailing that down.

Warner Bros. really has no clue what it's doing. Cavill was perfectly cast as Superman and with a better director at the helm, Man of Steel would have been amazing (instead of just solid). pic.twitter.com/kMmpwaMZ96

I refuse to believe that henry cavill is out and won’t be superman again until those words actually come from him

What do you think, is there any hope for the DCEU after such a major setback? Does Warner need to go back to the drawing board, or can they somehow salvage the situation? If so, how would they go about it? Let us know in the comments below!
